Many years ago we learned how the Earth’s variety of stones are an essential part of the life of the planet. They play a conscious role keeping the planet in harmony and balance – each with its own purpose and unique benefits.
But even more interesting was that over the years, many of the same benefits had been described for humans. Like plants, the Earth’s stones have qualities that can support healing, balance and personal growth. They are the most concentrated packages of life force available on the planet. However, use of the Earth’s minerals, is different from using plants and herbs. Plants introduce substances that work with the chemistry of the physical body. As soon as they are ingested they begin to degrade and lose their potency. On the other hand, the Earth’s stones introduce frequencies and frequency patterns that work with the energy in and around the body. They help the body, mind and spirit to find balance by re-tuning and releasing unhealthy patterns. Ultimately their impact can be more meaningful and longer lasting because they are “teachers” more than “medicines.” While some of their effects can be rapid, like the feeling of calmness and peace felt with LITHOS lepidolite, or the ability to dispel negative energy felt from stones like shungite, obsidian and smoky quartz, more often the effects of the stones are subtle; they are experienced through time. Their influence helps us develop a deeper awareness and a growing inner wisdom to make conscious choices that will positively affect our emotional, spiritual and physical well-being.
Water is another conscious life form essential to the Earth. Because of its unique molecular structure, water is a carrier and an amplifier of the frequencies of anything it contacts. Placing a gem or other stone(s) in/around water can create an elixir that introduces the frequencies of the stones to those who drink it. Making gem and earthstone elixirs is a great way to create personalized remedies. It opens a treasure chest of new possibilities in vibratory medicine.
There are a number of ways to make gem/earthstone elixirs. The process can be as simple as placing a stone in a glass of water or as complex as placing stones on a rack over boiling water so that water condenses on the stone and trickles into a container. In this article, we discuss some simple ways to use the energetic tools outlined in the book, Dancing with Water, for making and preserving potent gem and earthstone elixirs with verifiable benefits.
Start with:
1. Clean, quality water: Always use the best water available (filtered, ozonated or spring water are the best choices). We advise against the use of distilled or reverse osmosis water because they lack minerals. “Minerals anchor the life force in water.” In many ways, they ARE the life force since they come from the rocks and stones on the planet. Their presence helps hold vibratory information in the water. However, avoid overly-mineralized water, such as undiluted sea water or some brands of heavily-mineralized water which may “override” the subtle frequencies of the stones.
2. Clean, quality stones: Always use clean, quality stones that are free of matrix rock. This ensures that clear frequencies are delivered to the water. Stones do not have to be “gem” quality but they should be high quality (typically Grade AA or better). NOTE: Many stones on the market are dyed, heated or irradiated to enhance color. As a general rule, look for stones that are specifically labeled natural. Otherwise you may get dyed or treated stones; sometimes it is difficult to “see” the difference. And even when labeled “natural” you cannot always be sure; best when you can trust your supplier.
- Physically wash stones in clean water; avoid the use of detergents. If you have an ozonator, place the ozone diffuser in a glass of water with the stones and run for several minutes.
- Energetically cleanse stones. There are many ways to energetically cleanse stones. Perhaps the easiest way is to place them inside a Tensor Ring for about 10 minutes. This clears vibratory information that most stones naturally pick up from the environment. It also activates each stone’s individual properties. You may also clear stones by placing them directly on the Earth for 20-30 minutes, or by placing them in the sun. However, not all stones should be placed in the sun, so if you are unsure, select another cleansing method. Another way to energetically cleanse stones is to place them under alternating hot and cold running water for 30–60 seconds. There are some stones that carry such high a high vibration, that they never need to be cleared – in fact, they can be used to clear other stones. The best example of this is a stone called selenite. It will clear another stone within 15-20 minutes when placed on or near it. Quartz crystal clusters (not just one crystal) will also clear other stones in a few minutes depending on the size of the cluster. Tuning forks that resonate at the same frequency as crystal quartz (4096 Hertz) will also clear the dense, lower frequency burdens that stones pick up. NOTE: There are a number of special devices that have been designed to clear energy. If you have access to one of these, use it at your discretion.
Make an elixir using one of the following methods:
Placement directly in water: Most stones can be safely placed in water. If you have doubts, look them up online where you can find lists of stones that should not be placed directly in water intended for consumption. None of the stones we discuss in this article are on that list.
Simply place a stone(s) directly in a glass or small container of water and leave in an undisturbed area. One stone is enough, however more/larger stones will speed the process and make stronger elixirs. Stones that are tumbled or spherically shaped will radiate their energy in a more even manner. Make sure the environment is free of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) such as those from cell phones, computers, microwaves and electrical appliances. These should be at least 8-12 feet from the water, depending on the nature and strength of the EMF. Leave for 2-3 hours or overnight before consumption. If the water is structured first, the process will proceed faster.
Placement of stones near rather than in water: Often it is easier and more efficient to place stones within close proximity rather than directly in water. A number of devices have been designed with this in mind where stones are encased in a wand or in a compartment that keeps them within close proximity yet out of direct contact with the water. Even a test tube filled with stones inside a glass of water can be used for this purpose. Below is another ways to make elixirs without placing stones directly in water.
Using an Elixir Ring: The authors of Dancing with Water have found that beads made from the Earth’s stones are an ideal way to string specific stones together (like a necklace) for placement around a vessel of water. This is an easy way to make a more complex elixir. Anytime you create a closed loop, regardless of the materials used, a toroidal field emerges (think of a doughnut with swirling energy that rotates from the outside inward all the way around the doughnut). When spherical stones are strung together and formed into a loop, the resulting energetic field is much more complex and the resonance of each stone, contributes to a vibrating chord. It approximates a zero point field. Elixir Rings create a portal composed of sacred geometric patterns as each stone’s frequencies are interwoven into the toroidal field. When different kinds of stones are brought together in the circle, energetic mandalas are formed. Pouring water through the opening brings structure to the water with the beneficial qualities that include, not only the individual qualities of each stone but the synergistic effect of the combination. Complementary stones help to direct, accent and/or broaden the effects of the other(s); repeating sequences can strengthen the combination. Enhanced by your own loving intentions, Elixir Rings can be powerful tools. Place them around a water bottle, a small pitcher, or the Water Cradle. Leave several hours or overnight in an undisturbed area and pour the water through the Elixir Ring just prior to consumption (This is a significant part of the process). Always consume any elixir with love and gratitude.
MJ Pangman discusses how to use an Elixir Ring
In the book, Dancing with Water, we discuss the benefits of several stones with a close relationship to water. Below, we broaden this discussion with emphasis on the use of stones for making elixirs. Remember that almost any type of stone (and an infinite number of combinations) can be used, depending on the properties of the stone(s) and your intended purpose.
The Quartz Family
Quartz is the most abundant stone on the planet. It is an essential part of the Earth, focusing and amplifying life force for the planet. It is responsible for keeping the Earth alive and in balance. When worn, quartz attracts life force to the wearer. It coheres, energizes and balances the human energy field.
At a molecular level, the structure of quartz is the same as water. Both are arranged in tetrahedral geometry forming layers of hexagonal rings. This geometry creates helical channels through which energy can be transported. Water amplifies, transmits, transforms and stores energy—and so does quartz. The abundance of quartz on the Earth is a factor in keeping natural/wild water structured; when used in an elixir it can help keep the water in the human body structured—and much more.
Quartz has numerous variations. Its color and properties vary depending on trace amounts of minerals that are found within its crystalline lattice and on vibratory influences from its environment during formation. In any of its forms, quartz is a good stone to include in an elixir or to make an Elixir Ring.
Crystal quartz is the clear, crystalline type of quartz. It gathers life force from all the colors of the rainbow, thus balancing mind body and spirit. In its pure, clear crystalline form, quartz is often used to augment the properties of other stones. By itself, it can be quite strong, so it is best used in combination with other stones. (Crystal quartz is used to support the effects of lavender quartz and amethyst in the Peace & Calm Elixir Ring)
Smoky quartz is a brown/gray variety of quartz produced when gamma radiation activates traces of aluminum in the crystalline array. This type of quartz is known for its ability to clear and protect from all forms of negative energy, including radiation, chemical toxins, pharmaceutical toxins, entities, EMFs and many other forms of stress. Smoky quartz supports adrenal function since it clears so many different forms of stress. It is also grounding and good for supporting the base chakra—helping us to connect more deeply with Mother Earth and to tap into the peace and abundance the Earth provides. Because it is like a magnet for toxic energy, smoky quartz needs to be cleansed often—based on how it is being used. (Smoky quartz is used in both the Recovery into Well-being AND the Grounding Higher Consciousness Elixir Rings)
Rose Quartz is a pale pink to rosy pink variety of quartz with a characteristic cloudy translucence. Depending on where it is mined, it can have a greater or lesser degree of color and clarity. Rose quartz is known for the calming, childlike love energy it radiates and for its ability to support the heart and the emotional body. It helps individuals embrace self-love by becoming aware of suppressed and unrecognized emotions so the emotions and the judgments around them can be expressed and/or released. Rose quartz is considered a balm for the physical and the emotional heart. Its gentle soothing effects cool and calm traumatic energy—past and present. Great for children and inner child work. (Rose quartz is used in the Inner Child Elixir Ring)
Amethyst is a pale to deep purple form of quartz resulting from trace amounts of iron and aluminum. Similar to smoky quartz, amethyst clears and protects. However, its protection is focused on the spiritual and psychic levels of the human energy field. It supports the crown chakra, helping individuals get in touch with their spiritual self and their connection with Source. One of the reasons amethyst is so helpful is that it calms the nervous system and clears the aura. This supports relaxation while opening connections to the spiritual realm and higher consciousness. Amethyst is considered a healing stone because it clears and stabilizes the aura, where most dysfunctions have their beginning. (Amethyst is used in the Peace & Calm Elixir Ring)
Lavender Quartz is sometimes considered a juvenile form of amethyst. The amount of iron and aluminum are negligible and it has a cloudy appearance with small areas of clarity. Its soft lavender hue draws individuals inward as it aligns each chakra within its emotional, mental and spiritual counterparts. In this way the flow of life force is increased to the physical body, with resulting improvements in energy and well-being. It is an ideal adjunct to any healing modality. Auric alignment also supports a stronger connection with Source and an ability to see the beauty and the divinity in all things. Lavender quartz brings youthful balance to the darker, deeper qualities of amethyst and can be used with amethyst to stabilize the aura and to strengthen each individual’s connection with Source. (lavender quartz is used in the Peace & Calm Elixir Ring)
Citrine is a yellow form of quartz ranging in color from pale lemon yellow to a deep amber. Its color is due to trace amounts of iron. Citrine vibrates with the healing power of the Sun’s light. Its energy is then focused on the solar plexus where it works to release tension in the abdominal muscles and in the nervous system’s connections in this area. Many traumas and stresses are held in the abdomen; these can affect digestion and elimination. Citrine provides support for the entire digestive and elimination systems and can assist in the resolution of many ailments in these areas.
Golden Healer Quartz is a newly discovered type of quartz. At the time of this writing, it is only available from places in Brazil, Madagascar and Arkansas in the United States. It includes many shades of clear, white, yellow, gold and brown, depending on the amount of hematite it contains. The clear areas of the stone bring in life force on the frequency of love while the darker shades ground the energy within us and to the Earth. Its healing energy is drawn in through all the chakras—especially the solar plexus where it works on the innermost levels of our being to bring to our awareness the highest and best in us and to align our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies with our true being. It brings spiritual clarity on many levels. Robert Simmons, author of Stones of the New Consciousness, describes golden healer quartz as “a powerful stone for the healing of the body and for the expansion of consciousness… said to facilitate the joint destiny of the Earth and humanity—the co-creation of the Earth as a planet of light.” In our experience, golden healer quartz connects us with the loving energy of Source and with our own solar Sun—grounding these energies through us to the Earth. It can jointly assist healing of the human being and of the planet. (Golden healer quartz is used in the Grounding Higher Consciousness AND the Navigating Changes Elixir Rings)
Non-crystalline forms of quartz
Quartz can take on many forms. When its molecules (SiO2) don’t create an extended crystalline array and when other minerals are a significant part of the mix, many different types of stones are formed.
Chalcedony is a form of quartz composed of tightly compacted micro crystals where the crystals are so tiny they cannot be seen without high magnification. Stones made of chalcedony come in a wide array of colors and often include beautiful patterns. They include all the agates, all forms of jasper, aventurine, bloodstone, carnelian, chrysoprase, flint, onyx, and others—each one with unique attributes for the human body and its energy field. Any of these stones can make a wonderful contribution to an elixir. (agates and aventurine are used in several Elixir Rings offered by Dancing with Water)
Opals are another member of the quartz family made of tiny spheres of quartz with water molecules sandwiched between. Their shimmering effect, known as opalescence, is caused as light is broken into individual colors by the quartz spheres. Opals are formed in underground cavities or fractures which serve as places for the collection and solidification of hydrated silica (quartz). There are many kinds of opals, however they all contain up to 20% water and thus carry memory and knowledge of the ancient Earth. Opals connect with the water in our bodies awakening cellular memories of our original blueprint. They are wonderful to include in elixirs. (petrified wood opal is used in the Navigating Changes Elixir Ring; Peruvian pink opal is used in the Energize Me! Elixir Ring)
Obsidian consists of at least 70 percent non-crystalline quartz. Technically it is volcanic glass (not a true stone) formed when lava cools too rapidly for crystallization to occur. It is softer than crystalline quartz but it breaks with sharp edges and has been used for millennia to make rudimentary tools. Its many forms have properties that include support for the base chakra, grounding, detoxification, and the ability to discharge negative energy. It has been worn for thousands of years for these reasons. Using it in an elixir is another way to glean these benefits. Obsidian may contain tiny gas bubbles or other microscopic inclusions that give it color or shimmering effects in the light and a variety of additional benefits. (Obsidian is used in the Recovery into Well-being AND the Grounding Higher Consciousness Elixir Rings)
Other stones
Shungite is composed mostly of carbon—known for the unique molecular configuration it contains where molecules form buckyballs or fullerenes. Although mostly carbon it is found in association with (and often contains areas of) quartz and pyrite. Shungite has been shown to protect the body from negative forms of energy—particularly EMFs and radiation. It does this by strengthening a person’s energetic field in such a way that it can dispel negativity before it has a negative impact. Shungite also amplifies the properties of other stones and clears dense, heavy energy. As a black stone, it is also supportive of the root chakra.
Fluorite is a simple mineral made of calcium and fluoride. It is softer than most minerals but it forms beautiful cubic or octagonal crystals depending on the temperature during its crystallization. Minor impurities produce an array of colors and beneficial effects. Generally speaking, fluorite emits a stabilizing energy that dispels disorder and discourages chaos. It supports the progression of orderly sequential thought and focused concentration. Fluorite can be supportive for those with ADD and ADHD. (blue fluorite is used in the GO with the Flow! Elixir Ring)
Calcite (in a variety of colors)is another simple mineral consisting of calcium and carbonate (CaCO3).Next to quartz, it is the most abundant of the Earth’s minerals. Like quartz, calcite amplifies energy—although to a much lesser degree. When placed on the body, it expands the energy field, clears the chakras, and supports calcium assimilation. Among other things, it is also a beautiful stone to use in an elixir for helping us explore and appreciate the creative forces of the natural world. (Two different colors of calcite are used in the Spring/Summer Elixir Ring)
Beryl family
Beryl is a mineral composed of beryllium aluminium silicate. Well-known varieties of beryl include emerald (deep green); heliodor (golden yellow); goshenite (clear); morganite (pink) and aquamarine (pale blue or blue-green). Aquamarine is an especially nice stone to include in elixirs because it has an affinity for water and for the watery composition of the body. It is known for bringing relaxation and fluidity to mind and body while heightening each individual’s awareness of inner truth and wisdom. Aquamarine-infused water is often helpful for improving the flexibility of joints. Long-term consumption is appreciated for an awakening to the inner ocean of knowledge and wisdom that each of us possess. It can be especially helpful for those who feel shut down emotionally, or who may feel their spiritual growth has stagnated. Aquamarine can be clear (gem quality), or cloudy. Gem quality is beautiful but it is not necessary to imprint water with its calming energy. NOTE: Aquamarine is often irradiated to enhance color although this procedure reduces its beneficial qualities.
Moonstone in many different forms has a more complex composition, made of orthoclase and albite with trace amounts of other minerals which can include small amounts of quartz and mica. Moonstone gets its name because of the unique shimmering effect where light appears to float across the surface of the stone. Its composition and structure influences its color—from blue and gray to peach and pink—and its corresponding beneficial qualities. Moonstone’s interaction with light is an indicator of how it works with the human body and energy field. It shines beauty into areas of darkness, helping reveal blockages that keep us from receiving our own light. Moonstone highlights the truth of who we are and helps us acknowledge false beliefs about ourselves. It reflects each individual’s divine light back to them so they can appreciate who they really are. Moonstone is often referred to as the “stone of youth.” When used in an elixir, its shimmering light also supports hydration for skin, muscles, joints and tendons while assisting DNA repair. (Moonstone is used in the Balance and Harmony AND the Inner Child Elixir Ring)
Garnet is another complex mineral with a variety of possible elements in its composition. Although generally considered to be red or red-brown, garnets can be found in any color. Red garnets work on the heart and blood, gathering life force and directing it up the spine and throughout the circulatory system. Garnets are strong—energetically. When use to make elixirs, their effects can often be felt quickly. They should be accompanied with other stones (particularly pink and green) to temper their potency and strength. (Red garnet is used in the Energize Me Elixir Ring)
There are thousands of different stones that can be used to make personal elixirs and Elixir Rings. You are limited only by your own imagination and your personal interests and needs. You may want to start by experiencing water made using one of the combinations we have designed to support the needs of many individuals at this time. See the growing gallery of Elixir Rings.
